Join us this June 2025 for Videography Direction from a Sustainable Perspective, a groundbreaking course designed for filmmakers who want to merge creativity with environmental responsibility. In today’s world, sustainability is more important than ever, and the film industry has a significant role to play in reducing its ecological footprint. This course will equip you with the knowledge and tools to direct high-quality videos while implementing eco-friendly practices.

 

Learn how to minimize waste on set, utilize energy-efficient lighting, adopt digital-first distribution methods, and source materials responsibly all without compromising artistic vision. Through hands-on projects and expert guidance, you’ll explore how ethical storytelling and sustainable production techniques can transform the way we create content. Whether you're an aspiring director or an industry professional looking to innovate, this course will empower you to lead the future of filmmaking in a way that respects both creativity and the planet. Enrol today and make a lasting impact through your lens!

We'll start with an on-line session (of roughly 1.5h) where we will introduce basic concepts and invite you to work on lightweight exercises in preparation for the in-person event.

Following, you will travel to Girona to participate in a one-week in-person workshop.

We'll conclude with a wrap-up on-line session where we will reflect on the learnings done throughout the summer school.  The following page provides the details of our program

THE SUMMER SCHOOL WILL INVOLVE THREE PHASES

Preparatory session / on-line
June 23, 16:00 (CET) 1.5 hours​

  • Self presentation

  • Introduction to the course

  • overview of sustainable videos as inspiration.

  • Start working on the project

Wrap-up session / on-line
 June 26, 16:00 (CET) 1.5 hours

  • Work in groups of 2 and gather material and ideas to develop a project once in Spain.​

  • Brainstorming session: Develop concepts for a short advertisement on a sustainability theme.

Summer school

Monday, June 30 Introduction & Team Formation (9:00 to 18:00)

  • Practical session: Camera basics—settings, framing, and storytelling techniques.

  • Team formation (2-3 students per team).

  • Assignments: Teams draft their storyline and production plan.

Tuesday, July 1: Day trip to Barcelona (9:00 to 19:00)

  • Field trip to Barcelona.

  • Get some inspiration and visit a related museum.

  • Reflection: Share discoveries and challenges faced while shooting sustainably.

Wednesday, July 2: Filming (9:00 to 18:00)

  • Video exercises: Capture the essence of the city using sustainable methods (natural lighting, eco-friendly techniques, etc.).

  • Focus on storytelling with landmarks, urban textures, and human interactions.

  • Teams capture footage and gather assets for their advertisements.

Thursday, July 3: Refinement & Final Touches (9:00 to 18:00)

  • Introduction to editing tools and sustainable practices in post-production.

  • Practical session: Basic editing techniques using eco-conscious software setups (e.g., cloud-based collaboration to reduce waste).

  • Each member will start editing their footage.

  • Advanced editing techniques and sound design basics.

  • Workshop: Craft impactful presentations and prepare for showcasing the project.


Friday, July 4: Presentation (9:00 to 14:00)

  • Feedback session: Initial review of work by peers and instructors.

  • Finalize projects.

  • Presentation of final projects (5-7 minutes each).

  • Group discussion: Reflecting on sustainability in creative work.

  • Certificates of attendance.


Wrap-up online, July 10, 16:00 (CET) 1.5 hours.

  •  Conclusion and feedback for each project

REGISTRATION TIMELINE FOR ERAM SUMMER SCHOOL 2025

Step 1: Choose Participation Type
 

  • Private Access (Not Funded)

    • Prepare the application form, a motivation letter, and a portfolio (shared via a drive).
       

  • BIP Access (Funded)

    • Contact your ERASMUS coordinator to have them communicate with international@eram.cat.

    • Your institution must complete and sign required documents.

    • Ensure your university shares with you the link to apply. You must have a motivation letter ready to upload.

 
Step 2: Submit Application
 

  • Deadline: April 7th, 2025

    • Submit all required documents based on your chosen participation type.

 
Step 3: Arrange Payment
 

  • For Private Access:

    • Pay the program fee (covers tuition, materials, accommodation, trips, etc.). Once we receive your application form, we will guide how to proceed with the payment.
       

  • For BIP Access:

    • Option 1: Book with ERAM a six-night dorm accommodation B&B  (limited availability).
       

    • Option 2: Book with ERAM a six-night in a double room accommodation B&B (limited availability).
       

    • Option 3: Arrange independent accommodation.
       

    • ATTENTION: Students applying for the Interaction Design course must make a payment. on top of the accommodation expenses if applies.
       

  • Payment Deadline: April 30, 2025. Once we receive your application in the link, we will guide how to proceed with the payment.

 
Step 4: Final Preparations
 

  • Students will cover their travel expenses (transport, transfers, food, activities not included in the programme).
     

  • Confirm you have a valid health insurance in Spain. EU citizens must hold a valid European Health Card. Other citizens must have a private insurance valid for the course dates.
     

  • Ensure all required documents and payments are completed before deadlines.
     

  • You forfeit your right to attend the course if you fail to make your payment on time.
